Privacy Policy
Private beta version · Effective October 10, 2026
salvete.ai is in a free, invitation-only beta. This is the beta privacy policy, written in plain English and still being reviewed by our lawyer. We'll email you before a reviewed version replaces it.
The short version:
- We collect only what we need to teach Latin and run your account.
- We never sell personal information, and there is no advertising in the app.
- Our AI tutor is powered by Anthropic, and your family's information is not used to train AI models.
- Homework and worksheet photos are read by the AI tutor and never stored by us. Our AI provider deletes them within 30 days.
- You can see your Students' activity, and you can ask us to delete any of it at any time.
1. Who we are and what this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains what information eescholar LLC, doing business as salvete.ai ("we", "us"), collects through salvete.ai and the app at app.salvete.ai (the "Service"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
The Service is an online Latin tutor for students aged 13 and older. A parent or legal guardian ("you") opens the account and adds each student ("Student"). It is offered only in the United States.
2. What we collect
We collect the information below, and nothing else. The Service has no advertising, social features, or messaging between users.
| Who it's about | What we collect | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Parent (account holder) | Name and email address; a sign-in ID from Google Firebase; when you agreed to our terms | You, or Google if you sign in with Google |
| Parent | Billing status, once paid plans start: plan, number of Students, trial and renewal dates, a Stripe customer ID | Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. |
| Student | First name, optional grade and pronouns, and an optional note you write in Settings | You |
| Student | Birth month and year, used once to confirm the Student is 13 or older. We keep only the fact that the check passed. | You |
| Student | Learning activity: questions answered, answers, scores, hints, lesson progress, placement results, game scores, and worksheets | The Student's use of the Service |
| Student | Conversations with the AI tutor, and the tutor's private study notes about what the Student knows | The Student and the AI tutor |
| Student | Class materials the Student uploads (for example handouts or notes), with their text and a summary | The Student |
| Student | Text read from homework and worksheet photos, and the marks. The photos themselves are not kept. | The Student and the AI tutor |
| Student | Safety notes, when the automated screen flags a message (Section 3) | The AI safety screen |
| Everyone | Basic technical data: the session cookie, error logs, and the amount of AI used each day | Your device and our servers |
3. How we use it
We use information only to provide and protect the Service:
- To tutor each Student. We choose what to practise next, write and grade questions, keep track of the words and grammar a Student knows, and let the tutor remember earlier sessions.
- To run your account. We use it to sign you in, manage your Students and your plan, and answer your messages to support.
- To keep Students safe. An automated system screens each Student message to the tutor for signs of self-harm, danger, sexual content, sharing personal information, or bullying. Flagged messages get a caring reply and, for serious concerns, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. A note is also shown to you on the Progress page.
- To improve lessons and questions. We look at how often questions are answered correctly and which ones students challenge, so we can fix or retire bad ones. Questions the AI writes may be reused for other students. They are general practice questions and never include your Student's answers or uploaded materials. Questions written from a Student's own class materials are shown only to that Student.
- To control costs and prevent abuse. We count AI use per Student per day to apply fair-use limits.
- To meet legal duties. For example, we keep required records and respond to lawful requests.
We do not use personal information for advertising, sell it, or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not use it to train AI models, and we do not make decisions about Students that have legal or similarly significant effects.
4. The AI tutor and your data
The tutor runs on Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, PBC. To answer a Student, we send Anthropic only what that request needs:
- the Student's first name, grade, pronouns, and the optional note you wrote in Settings;
- the current question and the Student's answer;
- recent conversation with the tutor, the tutor's study notes, and summaries of the Student's uploaded class materials;
- for a homework or worksheet check, the photos.
We do not send your email address, your name, or billing information.
No training. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, Anthropic does not use this information to train its models.
How long Anthropic keeps it. Anthropic keeps requests and responses for up to 30 days so it can detect misuse and keep its service safe and secure, and then deletes them.
Photos. Homework and worksheet photos pass through our server's memory on their way to Anthropic for reading. We never save them. We keep only the text the AI read from them and the marks.
AI can make mistakes. The tutor's notes about a Student, and its grading, are automated judgments. They can be wrong. You can see them, and a Student can challenge any marking with "Think the answer key is wrong?"
5. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers below. Each one works on our behalf, under contract, and only for the purpose shown.
| Provider | What they do for us | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (US, Oregon region) | Hosts the app and its database | Everything stored in the Service, encrypted at rest |
| Anthropic | Runs the AI tutor and the safety screen | What each AI request needs (Section 4) |
| Google (Firebase Authentication) | Parent sign-in | Your name, email address and sign-in details |
| Stripe | Payments and receipts, once paid plans start | Your name, email, billing address and card details, which go straight to Stripe |
| Cloudflare | Delivers the website and protects it from attacks | Web traffic, including IP addresses |
| Google Workspace | Our support email | Anything you send to support@, privacy@ or copyright@salvete.ai |
We may also share information:
- if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety;
- with a buyer of the business, under this policy's protections, if eescholar LLC is ever sold or merged. We will tell you first.
We do not share Student information with schools, teachers, or other users. The Service has no public profiles or leaderboards: game scores are personal bests, visible only in your account.
6. Teens and children
13 and older only. The Service is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. When you add a Student, we check their birth month and year. If they are under 13, we refuse and keep nothing about them. If we learn that we have information from a child under 13, we delete it. Please tell us at privacy@salvete.ai if you think this has happened.
Parents are in charge. Only a parent or legal guardian aged 18 or older can open an account and add Students. Students don't have their own email or password.
What you can see. You can see each Student's progress, lesson history, conversations with the tutor, the tutor's study notes, and safety notes. Please let your Students know you can see this.
Extra protections for teens. We never sell a Student's information, never use it for advertising, and never show Students ads. The tutor stays on Latin and studying, is clearly labeled as an AI, and never claims to be a person.
7. How long we keep it
We keep learning records while your account is open, because they are what lets the tutor teach each Student well. Shorter limits apply to the more sensitive items.
| Information | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Birth month and year | Not kept. We store only that the age check passed. |
| Homework and worksheet photos | Not kept by us. Anthropic deletes them within 30 days. |
| Text of conversations with the tutor, including excerpts in safety notes | 365 days, then the text is erased automatically. Answers and progress stay. |
| AI requests held by Anthropic | Up to 30 days |
| Learning records: answers, progress, tutor notes, uploaded materials, worksheets | While your account is open, or until you ask us to delete them |
| Your account details | While your account is open |
| Database backups | 7 days, then overwritten |
| Server error logs | 1 month |
| Billing records, once paid plans start | As long as tax and accounting law requires |
When you ask us to delete a Student or your account, we delete the information within 30 days. Backup copies then expire within 7 more days. Stripe and Google keep their own records under their own policies.
8. Your choices and rights
As the account holder, you can make these requests for yourself and for each of your Students:
- See it. Most of it is already in the app. Ask us for a copy of the rest.
- Correct it. Edit names, grades and notes in the app, or ask us.
- Delete it. Remove an uploaded material in the app. Ask us to delete a Student, or your whole account.
- Stop it. You can stop using the Service at any time. Uploading materials and photos is always optional.
To make a request, email privacy@salvete.ai from your account's email address. We may ask you to confirm it's you, and we will answer within 30 days.
State privacy rights. Depending on where you live, state law may give you more rights. These can include knowing what we collect, deleting it, correcting it, getting a copy, and opting out of sale, targeted advertising, or profiling. We already don't sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. We also don't use it for profiling that leads to legal or similarly significant decisions. If we turn down a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer. We won't treat you differently for using any of these rights.
9. Security
We protect information with safeguards suited to a service used by teenagers:
- Encryption. All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). The database is encrypted at rest and is not reachable from the internet.
- Secrets. Passwords to our systems and service keys are kept in a secrets vault, never in our code.
- Sign-in. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase. The app's session cookie can't be read by scripts and isn't sent to other sites.
- Access. Access to production systems is limited to the founder.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.
10. Cookies and similar technology
The app uses only what it needs to work:
- A session cookie (
salvete_session) keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. - Google Firebase stores your sign-in state in your browser.
- Your browser remembers your light or dark theme choice.
There are no advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics in the app or on this website. The app doesn't respond to "Do Not Track" signals, because it does no cross-site tracking.
11. Changes and contact
Changes. If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will email you and show a notice in the app at least 30 days before the change takes effect. We will ask for your consent again where the law requires it. The effective date at the top always shows the current version.
