1. Who we are and agreeing to these terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and eescholar LLC, an Arizona limited liability company doing business as salvete.ai ("salvete.ai", "we", "us"). They cover the salvete.ai website, the app at app.salvete.ai, and everything you can do there (together, the "Service").

"You" means the parent or legal guardian who creates the account. A "Student" is a person you add to your account so they can study.

You accept these Terms by creating an account or adding a Student. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it. It is part of these Terms.

2. Accounts, Students and ages

Who can open an account. You must be at least 18, live in the United States, and be the parent or legal guardian of each Student you add.

Students must be 13 or older. When you add a Student, we ask for their birth month and year to confirm they are at least 13. We keep only the fact that the check passed, not the birth date. The Service is not for children under 13. If we learn that a Student is under 13, we will remove that Student and delete their information.

You agree for your Students. You accept these Terms on behalf of each Student you add, and you are responsible for how they use the Service. Please go over Section 5 with them.

What you can see. As the account holder, you can see each Student's progress, lesson history, conversations with the AI tutor, and any safety notes (Section 4). Please let your Students know this before they start.

Number of Students. An account can have up to 6 Students.

Keeping your account secure. You sign in with an email and password or with Google. Keep your sign-in details private. Anyone using a device where you are signed in can reach your account, so sign out on shared devices. Tell us at support@salvete.ai if you think someone else has used your account.

Accurate information. Give us accurate information and keep your email address current. We send account notices there.

3. The free beta and future plans

The beta is free. During the private beta, the Service costs nothing and we don't ask for payment details. Access is by invitation, and we may change or end the beta at any time.

Paid plans later. Before paid plans start, we will email you the prices and the terms for renewal, cancellation and refunds at least 30 days ahead. You will be charged only if you choose a plan.

4. The AI tutor

It is an AI, not a person. The tutor is an artificial intelligence built on AI models from Anthropic. It writes questions, grades answers, gives hints and feedback, chats about Latin, and reads homework and worksheet photos. The app labels it as an AI tutor, and it is instructed never to claim to be human.

It can make mistakes. We check its Latin in several ways: hand-written lessons, a grammar engine that checks word forms, and automatic checks on AI-written questions. Even so, AI output can be wrong. If you think an answer was marked wrongly, tap "Think the answer key is wrong?" under the question. The tutor re-checks it more carefully and corrects the record if you were right. Don't treat the Service as the final authority on graded schoolwork.

It supports a teacher; it doesn't replace one. We don't promise any grade, exam score (such as the National Latin Exam or AP Latin) or school placement. Level checks, placement and progress figures are estimates.

Safety screening. The tutor stays on Latin and studying. An automated system screens each Student message to the tutor for signs of self-harm, danger, sexual content, sharing personal information, or bullying. If a message is flagged:

Not an emergency or counseling service. No person watches conversations as they happen, and the Service cannot respond to an emergency. Automated screening can miss things or flag things by mistake. If a Student is in danger, call 911. For a mental-health crisis, call or text 988.

5. Academic integrity and acceptable use

Students do their own work. salvete.ai helps Students learn Latin. It does not do graded work for them. The tutor coaches with questions and hints, and it won't translate assigned passages or complete homework, tests or take-home exams. Homework photos are used only to find the right starting level, not to produce answers.

Each Student must follow their school's and teacher's rules about AI and outside help. If a teacher doesn't allow AI tools for an assignment, don't use salvete.ai for it.

Personal, household use. The Service is for your household's own study. A school, teacher or tutoring business that wants to use it with students needs a separate agreement with us.

You and your Students may not:

Fair-use limits. To keep the Service affordable, we set daily limits on AI use for each Student. When a Student reaches the limit, AI features pause until the next day. Lessons, games and printing worksheets still work. We may change these limits.

6. Your content

"Your content" means what you or a Student put into the Service: answers, chat messages, uploaded class materials, homework and worksheet photos, feedback and reports.

You keep ownership. You own your content. You give us a limited licence to store, copy, process and display it, and to send it to our service providers (including our AI provider), only to run, secure and improve the Service. The licence ends when your content is deleted, apart from backup copies that expire on their normal schedule and anything we must keep by law.

Improving the Service. We use statistics about how questions are answered, such as how often a question is answered correctly, to improve lessons and questions. We do not use your content to train AI models.

Homework and worksheet photos. Photos are sent to our AI provider to be read. We never store them, and our AI provider deletes them within 30 days (see the Privacy Policy). We keep what was read from them, such as a Student's written answers and the marks, and the result, such as the lesson a Student should start at.

Class materials. A Student can upload class handouts and notes so the tutor can practise with them. We store the file, its text and a summary. Questions written from a Student's materials are shown only to that Student. Only upload materials you're allowed to use for your own study; your teacher or a publisher may own them.

Conversations. The text of tutor conversations is deleted automatically after 365 days. Answers, scores and progress are kept while your account is open.

Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.

7. Our content and intellectual property

What we own. We and our licensors own the Service, including:

We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your household's own study while your account is in good standing. We can withdraw this licence if the account is closed or these Terms are broken. You may print worksheets and lesson pages for your own Students.

AI-written questions are shared. Questions the AI writes may be saved and reused for other students. They don't contain your content. The exception is questions written from a Student's class materials, which stay private to that Student (Section 6).

Open-licensed and public-domain material. Parts of the curriculum use public-domain Latin texts and openly licensed resources, including the Dickinson College Commentaries Latin Core Vocabulary (CC BY-SA 3.0) and texts from the Perseus Digital Library (CC BY-SA 4.0). Those parts remain under their own licences, which these Terms don't limit. Our Credits page lists the sources.

Textbooks. We name textbooks such as Wheelock's Latin, the Cambridge Latin Course, Ecce Romani and Lingua Latina per se Illustrata only so you can tell us where a Student is. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by their authors or publishers, and we don't reproduce their content.

Copyright complaints. If you believe something on the Service infringes your copyright, email copyright@salvete.ai with:

We will respond as the DMCA provides, and we may close the accounts of repeat infringers.

8. Privacy and deleting your account

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and how long we keep it. In short:

Deleting your account. You can ask us to delete a Student or your whole account at any time. Email support@salvete.ai.

9. Changes and availability

Changes to the Service. We improve the Service often, and we may add, change or remove features. The beta in particular will change as we learn from families' feedback.

Availability. We work to keep the Service running, but we don't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may limit or pause AI features to manage cost, capacity or security, or when a provider has an outage.

If we close the Service. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email.

10. Suspension and termination

You can leave at any time. Ask us to delete your account (Section 8) or simply stop using the Service.

When we may suspend or close an account. We may suspend or close your account, or one Student's access, if:

When it's reasonable to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem.

What continues after closing. Sections 6 (as to backups and legal holds), 7, 11, 12 and 13 continue to apply after an account is closed.

11. Disclaimers, limit of liability and indemnity

Disclaimer. Except as these Terms expressly state, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that AI output will be correct or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Limit of liability. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost grades, lost data or lost opportunities, arising from the Service. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose and (b) $100.

These limits don't apply where the law doesn't allow them, such as liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or harm that cannot be limited by law. Some states don't allow certain exclusions, so some of these may not apply to you.

Indemnity. You agree to cover our reasonable losses, including legal fees, from third-party claims arising from content you or your Students upload in breach of these Terms, or from your breach of Section 5.

12. Disputes and governing law

Talk to us first. Most problems can be fixed quickly. Before starting any formal claim, email support@salvete.ai with a description of the problem and what you want. Both sides agree to try in good faith to resolve it within 60 days.

Governing law. Arizona law governs these Terms, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Consumer protections that apply where you live still apply to you.

Where disputes are heard. Any dispute not resolved informally will be heard in the state or federal courts in Maricopa County, Arizona. Either side may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court where the claim qualifies.

13. General terms

Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms. For a material change, we will email you and show a notice in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect. Changes required by law or for safety may take effect sooner. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the new Terms.

Electronic notices. You agree that we may send you notices and agreements electronically, by email or in the app.

The whole agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.

Other terms.

Where the Service is offered. The Service is offered only in the United States.
